Clones Bato, Wente
Owner/Manager Paul Hobbs Winery
Site 5 acres, rolling bench land with southern and western exposures
Soil Sandy-loam, gold ridge soil is the hallmark soil series in this area of Russian River Valley.
Climate The Russian River Valley climate is defined by its proximity to the ocean, and is bordered by the Russian River and the Mayacamas mountains. Coastal breezes bring cooling fog through the Petaluma wind gap in the morning and evening, balancing the afternoon heat enjoyed in this appellation. This temperature differential creates excellent conditions to grow chardonnay and pinot noir.
Named for Paul's great grandfather, this wine offers rich flavors of brioche, honeysuckle and Bosc pear riding a pure backbone of focused, crunchy acidity.
The Edward James Estate sits atop a hill, overlooking the eastern Russian River Valley. The Edward James Estate Bato Selection Chardonnay is mineral and opulent. Only 65 cases were produced.
