The Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree… Located in the Russian River Valley, the Valdez Vineyard reflects this saying for more than one reason. Once an apple orchard, the Valdez Vineyard produces grapes that reflect the characteristics of its owner: intense, bold, and authentic.
Site
Contoured vineyard with a north south exposure
Soil
Goldridge, well drained, brown sandy loam soils
Climate
The Russian River Valley climate is defined by its proximity to the ocean, and is bordered by the Russian River and the Mayacamas mountains. Coastal breezes bring cooling fog through the Petaluma wind gap in the morning and evening, balancing the afternoon heat enjoyed in this appellation. This temperature differential creates excellent conditions to grow chardonnay and pinot noir.
Clones
Pinot noir: Beba, Calera, Swan
Chardonnay: Old Wente, Robert Young
