2010 Bato Selection

Chardonnay

Edward James Estate
Russian River Valley

Only three barrels of the inaugural release of Edward James Estate Bato Selection Chardonnay were produced. The wine is an opalescent light straw color. It is seductively aromatic with heady jasmine, wet slate and spice. On the palate it is silky, complex and layered with flavors of fresh white peach, nectarines, banana cream pie, yeasty brioche and a touch of ginger. This intense weave of flavors persists over a lingering mineral finish.

91 Points Wine Spectator

“Intense and spicy, with intense honeysuckle, pear, peach and fig notes, offering floral scents that lead to hints of honeydew melon and banana bread. Consistent in size, displaying a measure of elegance. Drink now through 2018. ”

“Here in its first vintage, bursts from the glass with a rush of rich, tropical fruit. There is lovely depth and richness in the glass to match the aromatic nuances of the late-ripening, aromatic clones planted on this site. I am quite curious to see how the 2010 develops in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020”

Harvest Date October 20

Growing Season 2010 began with a wet winter and spring across Sonoma County. Summer was cool, though as harvest approached temperatures rose. Our pinot noir and chardonnay ripened fully and evenly, allowing sugars and acid to develop in balance. The wines from 2010 are bright, expressive and elegant.
