Cabernet Sauvignon

Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vnyd
St. Helena, Napa Valley

This wine is a study in structure and refinement. Deep garnet in color, it expresses aromas of boysenberry, cedar and clean earth. The wine is well-delineated, featuring finely sculpted layers of pipe tobacco, leather, dried herbs and wet slate. Structured, polished and precise tannins are accented with vanillin over an intense 60-second finish.

“From one of the great sites in Oakville, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard bristles on the palate with considerable energy and focus. Freshly cut flowers, red berries and crushed rocks all come to life in the glass. In 2010 Las Piedras stands out for its bright, intense salinity, which is the essential characteristic of this site. The 2010 needs at least a few years in bottle to settled down, but it is drop-dead gorgeous, even today. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. ”

“Glass-staining purple. Powerful, deeply scented cherry pit, cassis, pipe tobacco and licorice aromas, with vanilla and floral nuances adding complexity. Succulent and expansive on the palate, offering intense bitter cherry and dark berry flavors and a hint of candied violet. Rich but lively, with superb finishing clarity, well-knit tannins and a late jolt of peppery spices. ”

Harvest Date October 19

Growing Season 2010 graced Napa County with a long, cool spring. In March, the young tender vine buds were protected from frost by blankets of fog. As summer approached, the fog lingered on the coastline, which kept Napa’s evenings, nights and early mornings cool and damp. Mid-days were warm and occasional heat spikes in late summer and early fall encouraged ripening. The wines from 2010 are structured and bright.
