Cabernet Sauvignon

Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vnyd
St. Helena, Napa Valley

Behind the deep amethyst color lies an intense and brooding wine with aromas of dark wild berries, sandalwood, cedar, lavender, and bacon fat. Mouthwatering blueberry and spice cake flavors are interwoven with a solid core of faceted, ultra-fine grain tannin. Textured and seamless, this wine shows exceptional purity and harmony, and the finish is long, taught, and complex.

“The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is deep, powerful and earthy. Spices, leather, tobacco, menthol and cedar notes fill out the wine's broad-shouldered frame quite nicely. The tannins are quite formidable at this stage, but my guess is the Crane will always be a bit firm and bombastic in style.”

“One of my personal favorites, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard possesses flinty, wet stone-like characteristics, more rugged tannins and an overall more masculine personality than the Las Piedras. Its concentration is impressive for a 2011, the tannins are ripe, and the wine is beefy and mouthfilling. Although it may lack some of the nuances typical for this site, it is definitely a star of the vintage. It should drink well for 10-15 years.”

Harvest Date October 19

Growing Season Spring and early summer rains gave way to a mild growing season with even ripening and a historically late harvest. The 2011 vintage will be remembered as a year with challenging weather that produced a smaller harvest with very good wines which are striking in their elegance.
