Winemaker's Notes
Rich plum red in color, our second release of Pinot Noir under the CrossBarn label is mouthfilling with a great balance of fruit and earth. It greets the nose with aromas of strawberry and clove, and offers loads of cherry, mocha and vanilla on the palate, with a hint of smoked meat and white pepper on the finish. Alcohol 14.9%.
Harvest
Growing Season
Extended, cool spring weather resulted in late bud break. An ideal, long, temperate growing season followed, allowing for slow, full and even ripening of the fruit. Harvest began later than usual. The resulting wines can be characterized as rich and elegant with gorgeous aromatics.
Winemaking
CrossBarn is a true second label, sourced from the same exceptional vineyards used in making Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir. Crafted from hand-harvested grapes, this wine was fermented with indigenous yeasts, aged 11 months in new and used French oak barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered in September 2006.
