Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon, Hyde Vineyard
Carneros, Napa Valley

Reviews

California Grapevine
Vol. 30
2004
Score: 91 (100 possible)

Medium-dark ruby color with purplish tinges; attractive, forward, intense, concentrated, cedary, tarrish, slightly herbal, sweet black cheery fruit aroma; full body, forward, rich, plush, concentrated, plumy, mouth-filling, sweet blackberry and black cherry fruit flavors; full tannin; slightly dry on the finish; lingering aftertaste. Deserves several more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended.

Score: 95+ (100 possible)

The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Hyde Vineyard may be the finest Cabernet I have ever tasted from Carneros (better known for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah). Sadly, there are less than 500 cases of this sensational offering. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in Taransaud barrels, this full-bodied, thick, rich 2001 offers up aromas of licorice, pepper, black currants, and loamy soil. Pure, multi-layered, supple, and rich, it is best drunk between 2004-2018.

Score: 93 (100 possible)

Deliciously smooth, rich and polished, with a complex array of currant, blackberry, melted chocolate and mocha flavors, offering a wealth of concentrated flavors and a long, intense, yet graceful and harmonious finish that lingers, echoing coffee and smoky oak. Drink now through 2012. 481 cases made.
